Some suggestions:

1. Incorporate the new cross-channel branding (logo, colors, given in class). Here are some creative ideas and a Photoshop template for the new Twitter header image.

2.Twitter is an amazing social media tool, and there is a lot you can do with 140 characters. Here's Mashable's comprehensive guide from the basics to more sophisticated stuff.

3. Don't forget you also are in charge of the #UWSMC hashtag. Hashtags are a powerful tool that can be used for engagement and discovery, from livetweeting an event (like our UW SMC class - hint hint) to holding a regularly scheduled tweetchat, to so much more. Check out some of the things the Social Media Club of Seattle is involved in via Twitter.

4. Remember not to delete any of the content posted by the previous team, but build on it to enhance what's working and analyze what's not.

4. What tools can you use to start analyzing the page and tracking stats? We're going to learn about Hootsuite in Class 2, so if you haven't signed up and played around with some of the free tutorials, I highly recommend you do so. As a Pro member (free from the UW during the cert program enrollment), you have free access to Hootsuite University, which is a great tool to learn for managing and listening on Twitter as well as on other social media channels.

Feedback from last quarter's Twitter team:

What worked:
  • Live tweeting during class was our best source of mentions.
  • Following and interacting with our class speakers, giving them shout-outs.
  • Sharing articles is always a good bet on Twitter, but you have to be creative with the copy you write.
  • Promoting what other channels in class were doing drove a lot of clicks for us.
  • Using the hashtag #uwsmc reaches the right audience every time.

What didn’t work:
  • We had areas of responsibilities assigned, but we could have been better about following through on them.
  • It seemed only a few of us ended up tweeting regularly, and even that died down after a few weeks. We should have had a more defined editorial calendar that would have helped us space out our tweets.

What you wanted to try:
  • No feedback given. Sorry.
